So … you’re telling me that this “cam only” SS (with all those other mods added as well) made 13 ponies JUST by changing the clutch? I’m interested for you to explain how that happens … because I’m baffled. Does a stock clutch really drag that hard on the engine to cause a 13 hp loss compared to the LT1-S?

The reason behind this is MOI.

The factory clutch is a very heavy setup (factory LS7 clutch) that has a less than ideal MOI. The unit I replaced this with was a 9.5″ twin disc which has a much lower MOI, not to mention overall weight reduction. The results are an increase in HP and an increase in engine response (revving up quicker). This is my personal car, that’s daily driven, and yes it is a cam only setup.

Thank you for the info. I didn’t realize there was so much going into a clutch setup that makes that much difference for HP output. I’ve already ordered my LT1S for my G8 GXP that’s putting out 689 ponies and 712 ft/lbs to the wheels with my TT setup, so I’m looking forward to a clutch that won’t “give up” on me!
